I run Ubuntu Karmic 64-bit and the game was a bit of a challenge to install. I had not yet loaded the 32-bit libs so I had to retro my system to get the libncursesw.so.5 to identify correctly. Then I found that Ubuntu is only supporting libjpeg62 at this time so I had to compile a 32-bit version of libjpeg.so.8.0.1 and make a link to it in the [df]/libs file called libjpeg.so.8 and that was it.

For your convenience I have made the file available here:

Or you can go to http://www.ijg.org and get the code to compile it yourself.

SUMMARY:
OS: Windows Vista
APPLICATION: Java Runtime Environment Installer
ERROR: 1606 – Network resource %XXXX% cannot be located

SOLUTION:

1) Download the offline installer.

2)*important* Disconnect from the network.

3) Run JRE installer

4) Reboot

5) Reconnect to Network

EXPLANATION:
I was working on a windows vista machine for a client this week and came across an odd problem with windows setup and the Java runtime installer (Version:1.17) not cooperating.

The trouble started when my client tried to set up Yahoo SiteBuilder on his Acer laptop. Following the instructions he downloaded the SiteBuider installer and ran it. A message box appeared telling him that he needed the Java Runtime Environment installed before the SiteBuilder installer could continue. He then went to http://java.com/en/download/ to get the JRE. After a short download process he ran the JRE installer and followed the prompts to accept the license then on to the… error message? After several attempts to install using both the online and the offline versions of the installer with no success. I was called in to solve the problem.

I arrived on the scene (he brought the laptop to me) and explained the problem. Sure enough, during my test, the same error popped up. I looked into the Java site for help and the only suggestion I could find was to use the offline Installer. I had already done that and the error continued to occur. This error states that the network address %APPS???% cannot be located (or something to that effect) so I surmised that the installer was still trying to access network resources. I then disconnected from the network and tried again. This time the install proceeded normally and the JRE was installed successfully. After a reboot we installed SiteBuilder.

Well believe it or not they are out there and I think that this film can and will be related to by those guys that feel girls can be just as bad as guys when it comes to dating and relationships.

by Robert Kroker

( I wrote this in response to an arrogant, inflammatory email regarding a sitting government employee / elected official of the united states )

The united states was founded by a bunch if independent thinkers with a strong desire to limit the amount of government that is needed to administer a group of people to the smallest and least intrusive governing body. The founding fathers were all wealthy successful people that shared a common view that people can govern themselves if given the tools of enlightenment (aka: an education)

Skip forward a hundred years, to the 1860s, the self governing system has gone awry, the people in the south utilize a system of slavery to achieve their ends and thus denying a group of people enlightenment (pursuit of happiness) and liberty. This did not sit well with the independent crowd to the north. The two groups divided the states nearly along the slave borders with the five border slave states aligning with the north. Now with the Federated north and the Confederated south (Con means against or opposing,) we as a nation face our greatest challenge, a fight amongst our selves.

From across the waters the south began getting aid from the international community who would likely enjoy a great boon from the internal strife of this fledgling nation torn apart. The north did what they could to blockade the river access routs to the south thus quelling the outside distractions caused by the aid from abroad.

Jump almost one hundred more years and we are at it again, but this time the blood flows from mobs of terrorists in the Separate but Equal camp and in the Halls of Hatred under the pointed white hats. The oppressed people in this conflict learned some interesting tactics to help them carry on their war. 1) Literature and the ability to print it is a point of power. 2) People have a need to feel connected and empowered. 3) The more a person has, the stronger he or she will cling to an ideal. This knowledge brought on many distractions for the American people. The people most strongly affected in this situation had no say in the government that ran the system so instead of using the system to overthrow the government, which is exactly what our system is designed to do. The protagonists had to rely on other means to accomplish their goals. Mostly they used protest and civil disobedience. In addition they gathered forces from a more stable and committed stock, the children of the well to do, and the rich. They use the news media through demonstrations of civil disruption to carry their message. And through the dissemination of propaganda, and rhetoric, this war was all but over in only 15 years. All by simply distracting the American people from complacency by introducing a little unpleasant reality. However, the momentum was not lost when the war came to a close. The tools and tactics were redirected by the willful and charismatic leaders of the day to focus on the US involvement in Viet Nam’s civil war.

Skip forward a dozen years and these same tactics and their related momentum are adopted by retail manufactures and businesses to create a new culture of consumers from the over abundant population of followers without a cause. all the while priming the population to drive the country into overwhelming prosperity. Thanks to the retail corporate machine and general apathy and laziness in society, today we have a culture that lives for and responds predictably to sound bites and ad slogans.

In the modern political landscape, we are inundated with rhetoric provided by this or that right or left wing guru that we mistakenly take for information. All the while, we stand about parroting the words of the media without questioning the source, and neglecting our duty to participate in the voting process by ignoring the facts about the issues presented in the documents submitted in city and county counsel, and in the house of representatives, and in congress. In addition we, fail to regularly review fully the performance of our elected employees from the mayor to the president of the united states. All the documents are there to be read, all are public property, all are accessible. So when was the last time you read a bill before it went to congress? When was the last time you contacted your congressman or your governor or representative or the President? If we sit in closed bitch sessions and keep locked up to our own thoughts, we give up out rights through silence.

I cannot, nor would I want to support disrespect of our government and our elected officials. It was the will of the people that put them there. It was the voice of Americans, through votes, that got us where we are today. Whether we agree with the choice, or not, we only have four years until the next revolution. If we desire change, if we demand accountability, if we insist upon liberty, we need to make our points heard through votes. If we lack confidence in the people, we need to educate them with the truth, and empower them with personal enlightenment. The world keeps getting smaller and access to information easier, yet Americans are getting lazier. The media has a voice. The media has bias. You have a rational mind. Let the media talk. Make your mind think. Gather the documents to support your case. Know your goal so that truth may guide you through the wasteful distractions of the masses.

I had a taste for a citrus rum concoction the other day. I was, however, out of pineapple juice, and lemon lime soda, and even out of orange juice. I do, thankfully, keep the taste of the stars, the astronauts ambrosia, the nectar of NASA, TANG! So I popped the cork on a fresh bottle of 10 Cane Rum (top shelf in your favorite jar store) and dribbled a generous shot into a 10 oz glass and topped it with Tang. I little sip to awaken the tongue. Now that the flavor is fresh in my mouth, I deem this a good mix. What then do we call it? I muse to myself. We mixed the drink of American astronauts, Tang, with, as Capitan Thomas so gleefully noted, the drink of scoundrels and Pirates all, Rum.

I dub this lively, and nutritious, divination the…. Star Pirate! or Space Grog, whatever.
(technically grog is 3 parts water to two parts rum so you do the math)

Love Smiles and …. Oh ya!.. Rum!

–Please drink responsibly, and obey the laws of your locality.–

In my head I see the future as two roads one to emptiness one to love…

You’ve put sunshine in my
heart and moon
beams in my eyes. All the stars now
sparkle like diamonds in the sky.

Before I met you my wings were bound…
by broken dreams, and
a song without sound.

As our friendship
grew. I heard the
sound, of notes in a song
that was played by you. I felt
my bonds weaken, so I stood
up to see, that the song
from your heart had set
my wings
free. As I rose from
the earth, and looked
all around, I
saw you there shackled,
tight,
to the ground.

So I tucked
in my wings and dove toward the
sound of that song
that I heard about
a love without bounds.
Now as I land with my feet on the
dirt,
I open my arms and offer
you truth.
For sharing
that song that freed me
from earth.

    Or the beginning of time.

A pair of souls walk the web of life,

    For a prize they look,

A thing of beauty and of endless worth.

A pair of souls search the web of life,

    For a union they long,

A union of souls, of hearts, and of minds.

A pair of souls feel the web of life,

    For one another they search,

        One soul two parts together,

            Separated by a thread,

                Each alone on the web,

                    The Web of Life.

Live and Die, one knows not why.

One answer, one reason… Not Enough!

I kneed my hands in contemplation.

Events unfold, the story is told.

The cards we need, still in the deck.

We play the game, a losing wretch.

Time on our hands, hour glass sand.

It passes too slow, increasing demands.

moral drops hollowly…

Reach for the sky, tears in your eyes.

Shatter your dreams, bury them in lies.

Matters not how much, nor how hard we try.

They shatter your dreams, your smile turns rye.

Escape is eminent , one day we all die…

I just got AJAX all over my PHP!

I have just started work on a new site and for this adventure I have decided to learn some new tricks, AJAX and PHP. I have been watching Commander Tom mature over the last 5 years into a very competent PHP web programmer, and this inspired me to try my hand at it. You can watch my progress at TODE.thescoundrels.net
TODE is an acronym for Temple Of Digital Enlightenment. and is dedicated to the digital age and culture as an exploration of humanity in an online/digital community.

If you have any suggestions or comments I am always happy to here them.

Comment about the work and its author:
The author, age fourteen at the time of writing, lived in a run down, two story house, on a busy street in a middle class neighborhood of a small city near a large drive through park.
There was plenty of inspiration in the neighborhood to set the aspirations of this youth to elevate his level of social standing. There were also many influences to define the contrast between his own standing and that of his neighbors. In this second year of his adolescence, the author evaluates his progress on the path of his self set goals.

Flogging! That’s it! Society needs a good flogging!
There seems to be a breakdown in social reprisals. I say this for a few reasons, but mostly this. Most of us with children send our young impressionable offspring to public school; where in, they participate in a society that views individual spirit, forethought, and self determinism as the seeds of evil that must be stomped out like a plague against humanity.

In this Public School society our children are told that it is a crime to defend themselves or others, and that doing so is as much a negative as assaulting an unsuspecting, undeserving, and otherwise innocent classmate. This belief is affirmed by equal, simultaneous, and absolute punishment for all parties involved in a conflict. Next, we have the retribution for the crime; extricate them from the one thing that may help them in overcoming this pattern of behavior, the education they were promised, nay, that was forced upon them. Finally, diagnose them as having ADD, ADHD, PTSD or a myriad of other popular “disorders” then send them to a doctor to get medicated, because we all know that anyone who gets angry after they are told that they are “Bad” for expressing discontent for a system that holds them to the lowest common denominator of their peers and punishes them for trying to learn more than their dumbest classmate is obviously mentally disturbed and a danger to society.

The sad result of this line of thinking is an increase in drug addicted young people who have an “excuse” for poor social skills and bad behavior. In the way of our modern “Americans With Disabilities” consciousness we have a propensity to coddle anyone who is perceived to have a lesser ability than the commonly held, and erroneous, “normal person” ideal. Therefore, the person who is less than capable is given greater courtesy. Even the behavior of the flawed individual is judged, and measured by a variable compass. Furthermore, we as a society create “special needs” groups and lavish gifts and favors upon the “under privileged,” or “handicapped;” note here that we don’t dare say what we mean, we even cover our own perception with coddling gestures.

In years past we would “call a spade a spade” and “use some elbow grease” and “cut the dead wood.” Today if we cut the dead wood we are chastised for limiting someones potential, and if we call a spade a spade we are unfairly labeling, and if we use a little elbow grease to fix a problem we are ourselves labeled as “backwards” or out of touch. Where did hard work or work in general lose its luster? Have we lost our ability for rational thought? I have heard people talk about how we are living in an “enlightened” society today, but frankly, I just don’t see it. We have become dependent on the socialist ideals that have been infiltrating our nation for the last 50 years. These are the same Marxist ideals that the soviet union failed to bring to fruition.

The idea that all people are equal is founded on the principal that we all have equal opportunity. However, our modern society wants to take a literal approach to this concept and force us round pegs into the proverbial square hole. We are left two options if we intend to join in society, 1) be a large loud round peg and learn to have flexible sides so that we can “fit in,” or 2) be a small quiet round peg and leave plenty of space between our sides and the confines of the box. In contrast, I feel that we need to affect society to change. We need to return to the days of flogging those who bring harm to others. We need also to flog the lies and deception out of modern society with the lash of truth, and the whip of justice. Let the floggings begin!
